Remove the pulley from the jamb and cover the opening with a tin. Take the parting stops out on both sides of the window and you will see the wood pieces that parts the inside and outside sash. The entire jamb should be flushed. You can use a chisel to take out protruding parting stops beyond the jamb. Do the same steps in removing the outside leaving the exterior blind stop for the new window to rest.
Clean out for unnecessary debris and check if the new window fits. Again, take the new window off and apply caulking on the exterior blind stop and the sill where you will put the new window. Insert the new window in position making sure it is intact, level and square. Finally, screw the new window in the jamb; make sure to use long enough screw or better hold. Replace inside moldings for finishing and caulk the exterior and interior of the window frame where it meets the old lamb.
