What is your view of the DIY store Homebase?

I want to buy a vanity unit from Homebase (sink, unit, taps and waste) but have heard various stories about how good/bad it is. Have you ordered anything that had to be delivered? How was the entire experience?
Sorry I meant how good / bad Homebase is, not the vanity unit! (before someone points it out)

They went out of business in my state, but we used them often before they did. We never had a problem with them on deliveries and found that they often matched and beat Home Depot’s prices (that was before we got Lowes).

Ordered oak veneered furniture from Homebase 12 months ago. They told me when it would be delivered and said I would get a call a couple of days before delivery asking me if i wanted am or pm delivery. They did exactly what they said they would I cant fault their service and the furniture is fine.

I think Homebase is a store that’s probably on its way to the scrap heap. Any shop that seems to be having a perpetual Sale is probably in trouble.

My local branch is a huge shed but more often than not there are more staff than customers. It just doesn’t seem to stock the right goods. Is it a DIY shop or a furniture warehouse?

The same thing happened to Great Mills in the 1990’s. It took several years but they finally had to give up.

The Homebase where i stay is always out of the things that we want to buy and they will not have another delivery of it for weeks ,and the shelves are always empty but maybe that’s because people shop there alot and there stock runs low

Mostly Chinese made cr@p, and expensive for what it is. All the DIY sheds are the same, much better to go to a proper local bathroom showroom where the shopkeeper actually cares!!

My view of the DIY store Homebase is unfortunately blocked slightly by the sheds next to the railway station. Shame, really, as it’s a nice looking building, but I can see about 80% of it if I stand in the spare bedroom.

    🙂

    They are expensive!
They do have things that you cannot find anywhere else – so sometimes you have to shop there.
Some of their wood is better finished than their comp editors, and therefore worth buying just to save the hassle of having to correct all the faults.

If you now what you want and you know they stock it and you don’t mind paying a bit more and they are closer to you than B&Q then ok.
