How to choose the right pipe fittings ?

If you have encountered replacing the U-turn of trap in your bathroom sink, run a gas and water line to install a dryer or washer or, create your own sprinkler system, chances are you have an idea about pipe fittings. Pipelines, whether copper or steel, CPVC (Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride) or ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) are attached using pipe fittings. Pipe fittings enable pipes to run under a house, around a corner, over a ceiling or anywhere else you need them to go.

A great example of pipe fitting is when you need to run your pipe in a corner, you have to cut the pipe short and an elbow fitting is connected to make a clean turn at the same time allowing the pipe properly connected at both ends. Spigots and bulkheads are other types of pipe fittings. Pipe fittings connects two pipes in one of two ways; by slip fit or by threads. Plastic pipe can be slip fit or threaded and metal pipes can only be connected through threads.

If you are installing new pipes or repairing damages one, make sure that you will be using the appropriate materials for the job. There are specific type of pipe materials that can hold extreme gas or air pressure and other potable and non-potable water.

You can get pipe fitting in almost all home -improvement stores and where plumbing materials are available. If you are not sure about what type of pipe fitting to buy, you can consult someone on your local home improvement shops or you can bring a sample of the pipe you are using and ask about what would be the perfect fitting that will do the task. Make sure that when you try to run a gas, you have to get the necessary requirements and permit from your city.
